Company History

M A Wagener Ltd was formed by Murray Wagener after his father Wilf retired and closed down Wagener Construction in the late seventies

The homestead shown in the Photo Gallery is registered with the Historic Places Trust and was built by our family in 1860 and it’s restoration supervised by us in 2007-8.  It is unique in NZ as an adobe structure built with lime cement

Wilf Wagener made an enormous contribution to the New Zealand building industry from just after the Second World War to the establishment of what was Carrington Technical Institute to what is now Unitec

Wilf in his career was made a life member of the Master Builders Federation, served on the Apprenticeship Board for many years, set up the NZ Cadetship scheme that was the fore runner to what is now the degree course at Unitec.  He was the founding chairman for Carrington Technical Institute, was instrumental in the establishment of  the Auckland Building Centre and was one of the founders of the New Zealand Institute of Building.

Experience

Few builders can match us for the variety of work experience of our senior staff from small design and build alterations for residential clients to major building over 30 stories in height.

From office fitouts and hotel refurbishments to the development of log cabin construction, from civil works to the restoration of properties registered with the Historic Places Trust.

We have the experience to know whether or not a problem exists, to recognise minor issues that require resolution before they become major problems
