Initially starting his career as a building cadet for Wagener Construction Murray moved onto managing a large number of residential design and build projects.

Murray played a leading role in the innovation of a system to build log homes out of the residual peeler cores left over from the manufacture of plywood.

A career in project & contract management for some of NZs major constuction companies such as Multiplex, Manziel, and Canam.

- NZ Certificate in Building

- 38 years of experience in the New Zealand construction industry

- Starting from hands on training as a cadet to project managing multi million dollar high rise buildings for companies like Mainzeal and Multiplex

- Ran his own Cobblestone Factory manufacturing pavers

- As M A Wagener Ltd carried out commercial renovations and additions and design & build for residential properties

- Lectured construction courses at what was Carrington Technical Institute

- Pioneered with his brother the development of Log Home construction

- As chairman of a charitable trust has overseen the restoration of a Category One (circa 1860) Historic Places Trust registered homestead in Northland

- Has served on the boards of both the Auckland Master Builders Association and the Auckland branch of the NZIOB
